Explore the Art of Stillness, Movement & Healing Touch
This immersive course is designed to introduce therapists to the synergistic blend of Shiatsu and Traditional Thai Bodywork—two powerful and ancient modalities rooted in Eastern philosophy, energetic anatomy, and therapeutic touch.
While they originate from different cultures—Japan and Thailand—these two styles harmonise beautifully. This course gives you the tools to combine both approaches in a fluid, client-responsive way that supports the body’s natural healing abilities without the use of oils, allowing for treatments in flexible settings such as wellness retreats, mat-based studios, gym settings or mobile clinics.
Why Combine Shiatsu & Thai Traditional Bodywork?
Both therapies are deeply rooted in traditional Eastern medicine, and while their approaches differ—Shiatsu focuses on meridian pressure and Thai massage emphasises stretching and energy line work—they share a similar intent: to restore balance, ease, and vitality in the body.
By combining them:
- You learn to vary your treatments with both static and dynamic techniques.
- You’ll enhance your skill in working through clothing, ideal for clients who prefer dry massage.
- You’ll develop a rhythmic flow between pressure, movement, and breath awareness.
- You’ll be able to customise sessions that support relaxation, mobility, and energy alignment.
What Is Shiatsu Massage?
Shiatsu massage is a Japanese bodywork therapy based on traditional Chinese medicine. It uses rhythmic pressure along energy pathways (meridians) to restore balance and relieve tension.
- Practitioners apply pressure with fingers, palms, elbows, and even knees, making it a deeply therapeutic, full-body treatment. Unlike oil-based massage, Shiatsu massage integrates physical and energetic healing to support both body and mind.
- Introduction to the Five Element theory and Meridian flow.
- Applying therapeutic pressure with mindful intention.
- Full-body Shiatsu routine using thumbs, palms, elbows, knees.
- Techniques to reduce tension, and support emotional wellbeing.
What Is Thai Traditional Massage?
Thai Traditional Massage, also known as Nuad Bo Rarn or Thai Yoga Massage, is an ancient healing practice that integrates bodywork with spiritual and energetic principles. Rooted in Thai medicine, it blends acupressure, deep tissue techniques, and assisted stretching to restore balance across the body, mind, and energy systems.
Thai Traditional Bodywork Techniques
- Understanding the Sen Sib (energy lines) and their therapeutic relevance.
- Grounded, rhythmic techniques performed on a Thai mat.
- Assisted stretching for hips, spine, shoulders, and legs.
- Rocking, compression, and acupressure sequences.
- Postural techniques that conserve the therapist’s energy while enhancing flow.
Integration: Shiatsu Meets Thai
- Merging Shiatsu stillness with Thai Massage dynamism.
- Designing flexible, customised treatments based on client needs.
- Body positioning and ergonomics for smooth session flow.
What You Will Gain
- Confidence in delivering two full-body styles with flow and focus.
- A rich toolbox of pressure and movement techniques adaptable to any body type.
- Ability to hold a calming and structured therapeutic presence.
- A deeper connection to Eastern healing principles, breathwork, and energetic listening.
- A flexible skill set that works equally well in clinics, spas, gyms, or mobile sessions.
Unlike oil massages, Thai Massage is performed fully clothed on a floor mat or massage table, using no oils. The therapist applies rhythmic pressure and gentle stretches using hands, elbows, knees, and body weight. The session typically starts at the feet and moves systematically through the entire body.
Benefits include:
- Increased flexibility and mobility.
- Improved circulation and energy flow.
- Postural alignment support.
- Stress reduction and deep relaxation.
- Enhanced body awareness and recovery.
